Halloween Remake (2007)

halloween07

run time: 109 mins
rated: R
considered: Horror
starring: Scout Taylor-Compton, Danielle Harris, Tyler Mane, Sherri Moon-Zombie, Daeg Faerch, Malcolm McDowell

movie summary: After being committed for 17 years, Michael Myers, now a grown man and still very dangerous, escapes from the mental institution (where he was committed as a 10 year old) and he immediately returns to Haddonfield, where he wants to find his baby sister, Laurie. Anyone who crosses his path is in mortal danger. (www.imdb.com)

my thoughts: By 2007 horror fans everywhere know the story of Michael Myers and Halloween. Instead of making yet another horrible movie in the franchise, dimension films allowed Rob Zombie to “reimage” the original Halloween.

When audiences went to the theatre to see Michael Myers again, they got a modern horror film filled with blood, guts, and lots of murder. The killings were more gory and brutal which suit modern movies.

In the first hour we get a glimpse of Michael’s life as a kid. He murders his sister and a few other people and then is committed. The next part of the film features him slowly withdrawing and becoming a mute.

After 15 years he finally escapes and tracks down his sister Laurie. His return to Haddonfield is filled with dead bodies and the destruction only gets worse until he gets to Laurie.

She gets the best of him and shoots him in the head and he is presumed dead.

The remake of Halloween is a slap in the face to the original John Carpenter film from 1978. Zombie takes all the original characters, some of their storylines, and twists it to fit his own image of how the events unfolded. Any Halloween fan will watch this, but will leave remembering how scary and special the original one was.

my star rating: 4 out 10

  1. I think the remake wasn’t bad but Rob Zombie is not my favorite director or writer, because all he focuses on is violence and gore, which is not my cup of tea if the story suffers for that.

    1. That’s why I gave this a lower rating, it’s not about Michael stalking Laurie, but how violent he was. I like some aspects of the movie, but overall not scary one bit.
